Rebirth of the U.S. (Pluto returns)

Pluto Return in USA Birth Chart and What it Means

Most people (and most astrologers) believe that the date that the United States of America came into existence is July 4, 1776. Using that date as the birth chart for the U.S., we see that, starting in February 2022 and ending in December 2022, the planet Pluto, by transit, returns to the same position that it occupied in the USA birth chart. Pluto’s cycle from one position in zodiacal longitude to a return to that same position, or a synodic cycle, is around 246 years. Obviously, no person today lives that long, and so no one experiences a Pluto return personally, but countries and institutions certainly can and do.

The impact of the slow-moving Pluto transit can be felt prior to it reaching an exact conjunction, especially within one degree of being exact. Between mid-March and early-June 2021 should give us a taste of its impact, although people who understand the effects of Pluto will recognize them much sooner. Yes, the year 2020 was unprecedented in many ways, and as I pointed out in an earlier article, this likely corresponded to the Saturn Pluto conjunction in January 2020. As an aside, Saturn and Pluto were close to being in opposition to each other (180 degrees apart) on 9/11/2001. Also, Pluto was 45 degrees away from its natal position in the USA birth chart on 9/11. Angular relationships of 0, 45, 90, and 180 degrees – or hard aspects – often signify that something will manifest in the world, or in your life, such as an event or events.

What does this Pluto return mean for the U.S.?

The positives: We could see the beginning of a new revolution for the United States but on a different level than 1776. Rather than breaking free from the tyrannical rule of Great Britain, this time could signify breaking free from tyranny from other players e.g., Big Tech, China, certain political figures or entities, etc. The point is that the United States, and its citizens, can be rejuvenated, even regenerated, by this Pluto return. It will take time to unfold. When Pluto makes a hard aspect, what dies is usually something that has lost its usefulness, and its removal creates space for something new to emerge. In this death and rebirth process, what is new, or what is born, often does not appear until sometime later.

The negatives: Pluto signifies deep transformation both psychologically and materially. This can mean an extreme financial crisis that eliminates businesses and could also eliminate the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency. For transformation to occur, it usually is preceded by some sort of death psychologically as well as materially. And the process of letting go of the old, of what is no longer useful, can be painful and difficult when we don’t want to let go. Since we are talking about a country rather than an individual, expect those in charge to exercise their power to the fullest extent possible to control or manipulate outcomes. Those in power want to hold onto it and will likely fight to the end to keep it. While this can lead to civil war, it certainly portends intense stress to the people of the United States.

Ultimately, Pluto transits are beneficial, especially when the U.S. and its people embrace the change and allow the transformation to unfold. Will we?
